Lena Fletcher is a Ph.D student at UMass Amherst in the Department of Environmental Conservation. She earned a B.A. in Geology from Smith College (1999) and a M.S. in Forest Resources from UMass Amherst (2009). In between degrees Lena taught earth science and ecology in a local high school and worked as an outdoor guide, backpacking in the Rockies and the White Mountains, and sea kayaking in Alaska. In recent years Lena has worked as a researcher on a long-term ecological monitoring program for Forest Reserves in Massachusetts and on an Assessment of the Forest Resources of Massachusetts for the US Forest Service. Lena is beginning her Ph.D. studies this fall and will focus on watershed management.
